General Guild Info
The Guild of the Free Companies is a casual minded, PvE focused guild on Fort Aspenwood. Created in October 2012, we have trudged on through the years surviving the content droughts, the system changes, and other challenges that cause people to drop off. With the new expansion another content drought has come to an end and we're looking to rebuild our active numbers once again.
Since our creation we have always had a strong focus on quality over quantity. We want every member to feel like they belong to our little community, no matter their skill level or how much time they can dedicate to the guild. It also does not matter if you are brand new to the game or have a few 80s under your belt; both the experienced and inexperienced are welcomed here.
All we are really looking for in a guild member is that they are a friendly person to play with, have a casual attitude towards playing the game (even if their playtime is not casual), and are willing to help their fellow members when able.
We do not have a 100% rep policy. Someone might check up on you if you are not representing (as many people forget to rep their alts), but we're not going to say that you cannot play in your friend's small guild or your WvW guild or anything like that. As long as you rep us some of the time, you will be a valued member of the guild.
We also do not have a heavy handed policy for kicking the inactive. Life happens or we sometimes need a break, we understand. We appreciate it if you let us know first (there's a section on our forums for it), but even if you do not get a chance to, you only risk being kicked if you've been inactive for more than 6-12 months and were not very active in the guild before going MIA (the more established member you become, the more leeway you will have because people remember you and miss you). New recruits who join and then never rep and/or do not respond to check-in whispers/mail might face being kicked sooner.
As for our activity level, most of our members live in the EST or CST time zones. Because of this, the prime time hours for these regions are when we are most active (with weekdays often being more busy than weekends). We do have some members from MST/PST areas and few late nighters, so there is interest in expanding our membership to people who also play during those evening hours. If you're in those time zones, you will likely get the most out of our guild if you initially log on around 5 or 6pm PST as your playtime will overlap with the main bulk of our members.
In the realm of guild activities, Tuesday evening is our Guild Mission night, but we are also willing to get planned events scheduled for doing content that people are interested in. Want to get into Fractals? Want company doing hero point runs? Having trouble with a JP? Ask and we'll try to make it happen. Taking part in the guild events is not mandatory, but all are free to join in.
For those who love to chat, we have a our own Discord channel that is always there for our members to use (this is also were most of our out of game chatting has moved to). No one is required to be on it while they are in game, though we do highly prefer that you at least log on during Guild Missions for the ease of organizing. If you do not have a mic, you can still listen in and respond in guild chat. But trust me, you will get the most out of being a member of this guild by interacting with everyone via Discord.
On a more serious note, The Guild of the Free Companies does not condone or support any of the following:
- Being mean or hurtful to other guild members or players. You risk getting a suspension or ban from Anet and it give others a negative impression of the guild as a whole.
- Exploiting. This includes any activity that you could get banned for, as well as taking excessive advantage of bugs and other obvious errors in the game.
- Elitist Attitudes. We have members who are not interested in speed-running content, min/maxing their characters to be as OP as possible, or are just not very experienced with all the content yet. If you cannot be respectful of other people's preferences and capabilities or offer advice without being condescending, we don't want you.
If GTFC sounds like the guild for you, submit an application and we'll get you an invite!
If you're already a member of the guild, please register if you haven't already!
